Sensor Fusion

Many technologies within the aviation field require the use of both passive and active sensors in order to increase situational awareness. We are involved in research geared towards developing sensor fusion/extraction techniques. One such research is the development of techniques to fuse synthetic images from digital elevation models and to enhance images from forward looking infrared and radar. The objective is to locate significant features (e.g. cultural features such as roads, rivers, runway lights) in the enhanced image that are not in the synthetic image as well as to optimally blending the two images for pilot usage.
