Title: TERRAIN VISUALIZATION AND ANALYSIS FOR SYNTHETIC VISION
NASA has developed a revolutionary cockpit display technology that gives pilots a clear electronic three-dimensional perspective of what is outside, no matter how the pilot’s vision may be impaired by weather or darkness. The system, Synthetic Vision, combines global-positioning-system satellite signals with an onboard photo-realistic database to paint a picture of the terrain for the crew. The Synthetic Vision Systems use radar and lidar data taken from remote sensors placed on air born or space born vehicles to produce a picture that shows the shape of the terrain. The purpose of my research is to analyze the data used for these cockpit displays for integrity monitoring, to make sure that the picture the pilot sees is free of error.
