**The first class meeting including the following
information:
the first portion of the class included a general over view of
multimedia and the different topics that will be covered in the this
class. The second portion of the class was a demoof how to put a vedio
and audio clip together. We also learned about cameras and how they
	operate.
*NTSC(uses 30 frames per second) U.S.A and Japan
*PAL(uses 25 frames per second) Europe...
*We also talked about the different graphical file formats
*We defined pixels as the smallest unit in any T.V screen
        	or PC monitor.
*The images are projected on arranged pixels on the
screen. The pixels are arranged in rows on the screen. The image
is projected on the screen at a very high speed. The process is
repeated 30 times per second (NTSC) which gives us a feeling of
continuouspicture. Other chractrestics such as brightness,
depth are also incorporated in the image
the image. The more pixceles that reflect these chractrestics,
the better the resolution. Audio file formates as well as
video file formates a also used for the editing and the
	        construction of movies.

**The topics covered in the second class are as follows: #1) We discussed ways to create our own home page #2) Discussed how videos used to be made and how they are made in this modern age #3) Talked about the different Graghical File Formats #4) Distingueshed between these still grapghical file format #5) We then also looked at a animiation demo using the software morph along with different ways to copy files and compress them *The first step in creating a homepage is to make a dir in our jewels account and call it Public_html. The next step in creating a homepage is to go to note pad or any word processor and create the page format following certain guaidlines. Then this format can be transfered into our jewel account on the net. The format of the first homepage was very basic. *The way that videos are created is by recording the movies on a camera and digitize them. *There are a variety of graphical format files that are used by different companies and software makers. we listed all those files and briefly talked about the most important ones. Examples of these file formats are BMG, GIF, TIFF, CGM, and DXF. *We made a distingtion between these graphical file formats ( still pictures) and the other video and audio file formats that were discussed previously such as avi., mpg., and flc. *The last portion of the class was dedicated to learning a new and exciting animiation software called Morph.

**The following topics were discussed in the previous class * How to control colors -we can set the color of a background of a homepage by visiting a certain cite and downloading the colos codes and then asigning the desired color to the background of the homepage. -the same process should be followed in choosing the color of the fonts. *Counters are used to keep track of the numbor of cite visitors and obtain it we have to get special codes from another cite which is free for private use. *All images that are to be put into a html code have to be saved as GIF, or GPG. *Forms can also be created to allow the reader to fill out some information such as e-mail address, name, comments, and others. We also could assign the size of the form as 50% or any size we chose. The advantage of this form is to enable the cite owners to collect info from cite visitors and organize them in any fachion *The last topic was changing from jewel account into eng account.

**The topic of the discusion was The 7th Guest which is a Multimedia project that redefined the limitations of Multimedia. the discusion included the following parts: *Introduction:- The project was initiated by Graeme Devine and rob landeros who were two employees of Virgin Games which is based in California. The two set out to create their own company Trilobyte and their first project was The 7th Guest which is a CD-RAM game that defied the existing technology limitations of CD-RAM. *Team:- The team that was in charge of this project consisted of Devine and Landeros along with a script writer(Matthew Costello), cinematic photorealism(Robert Stein),music writer(Fat Man), and producer (David Luehmann), In addition to few more programers and artists. *Process:-After more that a dozen times Matthew came up with the game's story or script. On the other hand, Fat Man composed many track for the differnet portion of the game. The interface of the game was also created to be as non-computer as possible. Landeros also cerated the interface ghostly icons. The team also choose to create the haunted mansion using Autodesk's 3D Studio rether than recording a an existing nearby mansion with a 360 degree camera. this move was one of the moves responsible for the delay of the project. Then the San Diego computer artist worked on the interiors for a year. The next step in the project was to record the video scenes and composite them over the photorealistic 3-D world of the mansion. Naturaly, the addition of Audio was next in the process. for example phrases such as "are you loooooonely" were added to echo in the player's mind. Having created all these large files, the team had to reduce their size or shrink the size of these files. Then the game was tested for a while to insure that it does not have any glitches or compatability problems. Having corrected all these errors the game now was ready fo distribution. Due to its break through in CD-RAM technology, the game posted high salles with very little marketing and advertisment. *Conclusion:- The 7ht Guest with its new technology teaches us that anything and everthing is possible if there is determination.

**The topic of discussion in the previous lecture was the second Multimedia experience of "Who Killed Sam Rupert" by Shannon Gilligan. The discussion coverd some aspects of the creation and development of the game. The development of the this Multimedia Murder Mystory game followed almost the same steps as The 7th Guest. Shannon Gilligan was a sucessful childern's story writer who was inspired to utilize the new Multimedia technology to make adult murder mystory games on CD-RAM. She teams up with a West Coast Publisher, CMC. This company was founded in 1987 in Portland, Oregon. At the end the game cost was $55,000 and the development period was close to one and a half years. The game recieved a lot of awards and was distributed around the world.

The topic discussed in last week's class was Truespace functions and applications. Truespace is a powerful 3-D graphing software that has movie applications. Using this software, one can create 3-D graphs, pictures, and finally movies which can be saved as ,avi files. The class watched a demo and then was divided into groups to create seprate graphs. The following steps are taken in creating a movie in Truespace: 1)create new scene 2)chose the object that you want to create from the Primitive Panel 3)sweep the object that was previously created 4)move the hinge to the center of the object 5)paint the face of the object with the apropriate colors 6)render the object or the scene after painting it 7)get camera from primitive panel and chose viewing prospective. 8)look the different views of the camera and center its view on the object and glue its view to the object 9)record and move the camera around the object specifying the number of frames that you want 10)after animation save scene as "file-name.scn" file This is the general procedure of making a movie in Truespace.

The topic disscused in the previous lecture was a software program called DIRECTOR which combines sound "wve" and movies "avi" to create Multimedia projects. The advantage of Director is that it gives the users a large number of channels on which to place movies and sound unlike the limited number of channels given by programs such as Adobe. It also gives the users more flexability in exporting pictures and movies. It is used by movie directors, advertising companies, and hobbiests.

This site will contain summaries to all Multimedia class

The Topic of last week lecture was another Multimedia software called Authorware. Authorware is a very powerfull software for creating Multimedia projects. It allows for much more flexiablity than Director or many other Multimedia softwares. A key difference between Direcotr and Authorware is its ability to be interactive in nature giving the programer as well as the user much more flexability. As we approach the end of the semester Authorware seems to tie all the course together.

lectures and will be updated everyweek. Visit this site for the latest class progress report. It is intended for all those who are intrested in Multimedia.
