Selection of STI participants is dependent upon several general requirements. Each participant is expected to meet these requirements and have an interest in transportation, before being admitted to the program.

  • Applicants must have completed 9th or 10th grade during the 2007-08 academic school year.
  • Applicants must have a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed at least one course in algebra.

Submission of the official STI application, and necessary supporting documents, should be received or postmarked no later than May 30, 2008.

Completed packets must include:

  • The official STI application.
  • A typed essay, no more than one page, describing the student's career objective(s), their interest in transportation and how they believe the Summer Transportation Institute can assist them in reaching their career goals.
  • An official sealed transcript or grade report.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one preferably from a math or science teacher.
  • Maryland Functional Test scores in reading, writing and mathematics.
