The research
efforts conducted by NTC faculty and researchers are perhaps the
most important resource of the Center. Faculty are essential to
meeting the goals and objectives of the NTC and they are committed
to conducting studies concerning transportation planning, design,
management, finance and regulation.
Much of the
research conducted involves other faculty, student assistants and
a coordination of expertise from various local, state and national
agencies. Researchers continually give their time to see through
the progress of studies that take months, and at times years, to
complete. Their efforts serve as a resource for addressing the many
issues facing the transportation profession.
The NTC could not accomplish
its mission or provide the services it does without the dedication
of the many researchers we work with day in and day out. Their accomplishments
go above and beyond and are beneficial to further development of
NTC research activities.
This
portion of our site is used by researchers to communicate with their
peers and NTC departmental staff in order to obtain deadline information,
submit forms, register for events and to request information. Click

Basic research
is theory-building and experimental in nature for the purpose of
advancement of knowledge. Because basic research typically does
not solve "real world" problems, NTC will entertain requests
for exclusive NTC funding, although external funding and collaboration
are welcome. NTC is also soliciting applied research proposals;
external funding is required, but NTC cost share is available.
See research
policy
and procedures guide for additional information.
Cooperative Research Alternatives
Many organizations
in the Transportation Industry provide the opportunity to conduct
applied contract research that develops practical solutions to problems
facing transportation agencies today. The National Cooperative Highway
Research Program (NCHRP) and the Transit Cooperative Research Program
(TCRP) formally solicit potential research topics each year to conduct
applied research in specific topics in Transportation.
Many NCHRP and
TCRP research topics do not receive funding but are appropriate
for funding from other sources. Keeping the theme of the NTC in
mind, please take the time to review those NCHRP projects that did
not receive funding and selected TCRP projects and consider for
proposal to additional funding sources.
