Each year,
the NTC hosts main events that bring attention to the many facets
of the transportation industry. These events are a large part of
the success of the Center and are open to participants of various
ages and professional backgrounds.
We're sure that your participation, whether as an attendee or program sponsor, will help enrich the knowledge of someone who has an interest in the field. We urge you to get involved and browse our calendar of events for more additional programs and conferences.
Summer
Transportation Institute
As the National
Transportation Center continues to grow, so do the opportunities
available to those who are interested in the transportation field.
If you know a high school student who has completed the ninth or
tenth grade and has an interest in a career in transportation, please
encourage them to participate in the Summer Transportation Institute.
This dynamic program, which is held each year in the month of July, offers a full curriculum as well as a hands-on learning experience for students who have a future in the diversified field of transportation. Students gain invaluable knowledge from field trips, guest speakers and educational activities geared toward heightening awareness of the industry. The program also exposes students to life on campus and is held at Morgan State University.
High school freshman and sophomores who excel in science and math courses, who have successfully completed at least one prior algebra course and have a GPA of at least 2.5, are eligible to participate. The program also provides free lunch and transportation daily, a stipend and a certificate upon completion of the program.
The deadline
for applying to this year's program is fast approaching. Application
deadline information can be obtained by contacting the NTC Office
at 443/885-3666. Students may also speak their guidance counselor
or principal for more information.
Spread the word. The NTC wants this to be our biggest summer program ever!
Research Symposium
Various information is disseminated and learned at the NTC's Annual
Research Symposium. The goal of the program is to share transportation
faculty-led research with the university and public as the field
continues to grow.
The symposium
also allows officials, researchers and students to network about
the changes in the industry, new innovations and upcoming projects.
NTC Director Dr. Z. Andrew Farkas coordinates this effort yearly
with his staff, IT faculty and researchers. For more information
on this year's program, contact 443/885-3666 or forward an e-mail
to zfarkas@moac.morgan.edu
NTC sponsors
various other workshops, forums and receptions involving transportation
professionals, faculty and students. Please refer periodically to
our events calendar.
